Norwich City 2 Millwall 1

The Canaries won this match in the dying seconds when Henri Lansbury put his side into the lead for the first time with the very last kick of the game!

In a lacklustre game Theo Robinson opened the scoring for Millwall and within seconds Paul Lambert gambled and made a triple substitution that helped lift the players and the subdued home-crowd.

Lansbury was then also the provider for the home-side's first goal, after his free-kick hit the post and Elliott Ward reacted quickest to poke home the lose ball. It looked as if the Canaries would have to settle for a hard earned point, until Lansbury's moment of magic.

The City boss reshuffled his squad after Saturday's goal-less draw at Crystal Palace. Lambert dropped Wes Hoolahan, Chris Martin and Zak Whitbread to the bench, preferring Simon Lappin, Simeon Jackson and the fit-again Ward respectively. He handed new signing Marc Tierney his debut starting at left-back after the ex-Colchester full-back had replaced Adam Drury (Thigh) at Selhurst Park.

For the visitors, James Henry, once on-loan at Carrow Road played a starring role in midfield, while City player Jens Berthel-Askou, on-loan with the Lions, was suspended after being sent-off on his debut.

Norwich had the better of a dour first-half in which they created the best chances without finding the finish to match, although Steve Morison had an early chance for the visitors but his volley from distance was narrowly over John Ruddy's crossbar. That was to be his last contribution as the Lion's striker was replaced in the 16th minute by Robinson.

HALF-TIME: City 0 Lions 0

After that goalless first half, the Lions roared ahead in the 56th minute when Henry's low right wing cross was blasted in from close range at the far post by substitute Robinson.

This prompted the City boss to make that triple substitution, bringing on Anthony McNamee, Aaron Wilbraham and Hoolahan. But even then the home fans had to wait until the seventy-seventh minute for an equaliser.

Arsenal loanee Lansbury's diagonal free kick from the City right fell to Elliot Ward at the far post and he smashed the ball into the roof of the net from just outside the six-yard box.

This prompted an all-out assault by Norwich, which saw Millwall pegged back in their own half, with the home fans at last finding the volume to urge their team to go on and win the game.

All hope of three points must have been on the verge of extinction by the time Wilbraham's flick on fell to Grant Holt in the middle of the visitors penalty area, but as he struggled to control the ball Lansbury nipped in to score with a low drive, to send the players, their manager and the home fans wild with excitement.

The fact that the victory kept Norwich in second place in the table was just the icing on the cake, as Delia Smith might say...
