Norwich City's first reserve team game of the season ended in a 1-0 defeat to Southampton at Carrow Road last night. The match, which saw both sides reduced to ten men, was settled by a first half goal from David McGoldrick.

A City side featuring first team contenders Paul McVeigh, Peter Thorne and Jason Jarrett were edged out by a Southampton side comprising many of the club's successful FA Youth Cup winning team.

A competitive encounter was marred late on when Canaries midfielder Rossi Jarvis received a second yellow card for reacting to a nasty challenge by the visitors' Simon Gillet, who also saw red.
