Worthy to cast net far and wide - but not over Sutton

Norwich boss Nigel Worthingon is to look across Britain and Europe for new players to power the club's renewed push for promotion next term, but will not be eyeing up a return for an old boy.

Chris Sutton, who left the club for Blackburn Rovers for £5million a dozen years ago, had been linked with a move back to Norfolk after his brief spell with Birmingham came to an end.

The former Celtic man, despite approaching the end of his career at 33, can still expect a Premiership salary, and both of these factors have put Worthington off a high-profile swoop.

“Definitely not interested there,” he said. "It is one of those where we are looking for younger players and there's also the financial side of that one which comes into play.”

Worthington also re-iterated his desire to get the best possible value for the club by looking across the continent for players, with one eye on the financial implications of City failing to get promotion and seeing an end to their parachute payments from their spell in the Premiership.
